It all started with this...

The christmas rush has started...and the first quilt was this...

When this arrived and I started looking at it, all I could see was straight lines. Continuous curve was a problem in the star points because of the rectangular diamonds in with the regular. So, it took a while to get going. There were also small borders mixed in with larger ones. Don't get me wrong...I love this quilt...but for me it was a challenge.

I posted a picture on MQ Resource, which is a wonderful forum for longarm quilters, looking for some inspiration. Some of them too saw straight lines. So I began. I did however decide to add the continuous curve in the diamonds and split the rectangles into diamonds with the CC.

Here is the result...

This quilt was made by Jane Stewart. It was a block of the month called Taos by Whirligig Designs. I am tempted to make it myself because it is a beautiful...big (HUGE actually)...quilt.

It took a while to quilt it and put me a little behind, but it was worth it to see Jane's happy face.

So after I made a couple of other customers happy, then I did one of my own. It will be raffled off at our company Christmas party for charity. We usually do a big screen TV...but everyone has one of those and some staff are always bugging me for a quilt.
So I present Spirit of Christmas, designed by Nancy Rink. The fabric was a kit, also called Spirit of Christmas...

I quilted it with the Winter Wonderland pantograph. It is large snowflakes, which I thought fit with the applique, which I would have done by hand if I had the time.

Happy Holidays everyone. Now I have to do the binding! Enjoy the hop!

Manitoba Modern Quilt Guild

I should really try and get into blogging on a regular basis, however I have never been one to toot my own horn so to speak.
Anyways I wanted to spread the word about a new exciting guild in Manitoba. Marj Moore and I did a presentation at the Manitoba Prairie Quilt Guild about Modern Quilting in October. It was so well received...and we also announced at the meeting that we have started the Manitoba Modern Quilt Guild.
It is virtual right now with a Facebook presence. Just search for our page and join. We are currently searching for space to hold our first meeting in January. We are also going to be doing a Block Of The Month to get people motivated. We are making Park Bench by Jaybird Quilts. Julie Herman is the designer and creator of the Sidekick and Hex'n More rulers, which are both required for the quilt. www.jaybirdquilts.com

Email me at mmqg@outlook.com if you aren't on Facebook and still want to participate! We are going to be placing an order soon at the beginning of December!

Thank you for looking at my Manitoba blog through the blog hop. I will hopefully get back before the hop to post some pictures! What is a blog without some eye candy...

Happy Quilting everyone!

A new pantograph

I have fallen in love. This pantograph is so pretty when finished and flows so easily!

Inkblot Flowers - a Natalia Majors design purchased at Quilts Complete.

This quilt by Marlene is beautifully pieced and was a mystery quilt done by our guild! I quilted it with an Omni thread from Superior - Citrus Mint #3081

Happy Canada Day all! Go quilt something!

Black & White

I just love a black and white quilt! Beautiful and serene and i have the perfect thread to quilt it. King Tut, Rosetta Stone. Looks perfect with a pantograph every time.

Ronalee did this one

We used the pantograph Luau. It is a Turning Twenty Quilt.

Then how cute is this quilt...

The only problem was the actual dogs. I SID around the dogs and in some of the joints, but I didn't want to over quilt it. I just love the colours and the dogs. Beautiful quilt by Donna.

Next post will be a custom job, but i have to figure out how to blur the photographs on the quilt.

Happy Quilting!

One of mine!

I have finally finished one of my own quilts. It was last years Border Creek mystery quilt...it came in 2 colourways. This is one way.

It is Moda Etchings in the aqua colour

This was the other colourways and was made by a friend Lesley. Also Moda Etchings. What lovely fabric.

I am gifting mine to a family member. I quilted it with Anne Brights panto called Pearl Feathers and used the new Omni thrrad from Superior. I was able to find the perfect colour thread which is important with this pantograph. You can't have the pearls stand out too much because what circle is ever perfect.

Lesley's quilt was another Anne Bright pantograph called Damask.

Happy quilting! Off to work! :(

Amazing Radiant Star

Maris made this Radiant Star Quilt using the Eleanor Burns method. Finished size is 108x108. It is a beautiful large quilt. It took FOREVER to quilt, not only because it was large, but lots of family stuff going on too. Dad had knee replacement surgery and we moved them from their house of 30 years to a brand new apartment block for 55+.

You can see the continuous curve in the star with a tan coloured thread which ended with a lovely pattern in the centre. One border was the 6" leaf pile border from Donna Reinarts. The next border is diamonds with a line filler in between. I wanted to define one border to follow the star. Following border was an oak leaf stencil and finally Ii treated the cream frame of the star centre as another border, using half circles to create curved diamonds in the centre to mirror the cc in the star. The corner blocks and the setting triangles were quilted with a leaf and feather motif taken from the Quiltmaker volume of designs.

It was alot of work but i think the quilt deserved something special because the piecing was so well done! I hope that Maris is happy! I was and "off the frame" sounded so sweet when I was done. I had to turn the quilt 4 times to accomodate the square and triangle designs. They were 20" in size and my Nolting has a 24" throat.

One more picture?

Happy quilting everyone!
